Conger Inducted Into GSW's Kappa Delta Pi Chapter

2016 Apr 20

Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, is pleased to announce that 20 members have been invited and inducted into its membership through the Pi Gamma Chapter of Georgia Southwestern State University.

Hannah Conger of Americus (31709) was one of the 20 inducted members.

The initiation ceremony took place on March 16, 2016 in the Rotunda of Georgia Southwestern's Wheatley Administration Building.

The program began with a welcome from dean of the School of Education, Rachel Abbott, Ph.D. The keynote address was given by Barbara Watford, part time instructor at Georgia Southwestern. Following the initiation of the 20 candidates, light refreshments were served.

"This semester's initiation was a huge success," said new initiate and interim chapter president Zachery Ward. "I am excited about what is in store for the new members of Kappa Delta Pi at Georgia Southwestern State University. I am personally looking forward to all the growth and service opportunities in the future. I would like to thank everyone who made this initiation such a smooth and pleasant ceremony."

The Society inducts individuals who have exhibited the ideals of scholarship, integrity in service, and commitment to excellence in teaching and its allied professions. Selection as a member of Kappa Delta Pi is based on high academic achievement, a commitment to education as a career, and a professional attitude that assures steady growth in the profession. At GSW, undergraduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and graduate students a 3.25 GPA to remain in good standing.

"I really enjoyed seeing the excited faces of all 20 candidates," counselor Sheryl Venable, Ed.D., said. "After the ceremony, all of the new members exhibited a sense of pride. Like our interim chapter president, I look forward to being a part of the work of this fine organization."
