Courtney Cooper-Wilson wins award at Georgia Southwestern's "Sirocco" release

2016 May 12

"Sirocco," Georgia Southwestern State University's annual student-published Literary and Visual Arts Magazine was recently released for 2016. A reading and release party held on April 21 celebrated the new edition titled, "Scattered Thoughts."

The magazine features work from students, faculty, staff and alumni and is chosen by a student editorial staff. This year's magazine highlights literary, visual and theatre arts and was inspired by "the creative spark that people receive during sporadic moments of their day," literary editor Brandon Foster said.

During the celebration, the Dolores Capitan Writing Award winners, who were chosen by faculty judges, were honored for their nonfiction writing submissions. Made possible through the generous support of GSW President Emeritus William Capitan and the late Dolores Capitan, the students received an honorary plaque and a monetary prize.

Courtney Cooper-Wilson of Americus won the poetry prize award.
