Tthe Albany Museum of Art recently held their 7th annual essay contest, "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words." All three honorable mentions in the college division were GSW students: Braylea Phillips of Albany, Rachel Gilmer of Leesburg, and Maggie Cox of Albany.

Tasmyn McCauley of Leesburg places first in Albany Museum of Art's essay contest

GSW student Tasmyn McCauley recently placed first in the college division in the Albany Museum of Art's 7th annual essay contest, "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words." Tasmyn's essay, "Sharp Edges," was inspired by a 1657 oil on oak panel painting by Dutch artist Pieter Claesz titled "Still Life."

Georgia Southwestern students attend history conference

Ten Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) students attended the Middle Georgia State University History Conference on Novemver 16, making the largest contingent from any campus. Eight of these students read original research papers on diverse topics including African American slave narratives, the Vietnam War, Koinonia Farm's regional history, art education in China, and Christian youth activism in the 1960s. The trip was supported through GSW's High Impact Opportunity Grant program. Participants included Dr. Susan Bragg, Ekele Kamalu, JR Jones, Christian Abercrombie, Chasity Higdon, Makayla Graham, Nikki Kadima, Nicole Marchant, Taylor Potter, Jonah Dodson, and Carlos Sanchez.

A reading and reception celebrating the release of the 2014 edition, "Liberate the Muse," was held April 16 in the Marshall Student Center Faculty Dining Room. The award winners were announced at the reception.
